Zero Waste Pittsburgh Offers Green Waste Certification to WED Related Activities/Events
New "Green" waste certification program provides no-cost assistance and recognition to local WED related events.
PITTSBURGH, February 2010 — Zero Waste Pittsburgh (ZWP), a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit environmental organization, is announcing a new project, the Waste Reduction Accomplishment Certification (WRAC) program. Through the WRAC program, ZWP will be providing assistance and recognition to groups and organizations in meeting the requirements outlined by the World Environment Day Partnership for participating events/activities. The WRAC program tracks and documents recycling and waste minimization efforts and provides event organizers with an easy, no-hassle way of holding an environmentally friendly, "green" event.
The first 25 WED related events that register with ZWP will receive their certification free of charge.

Zero Waste Pittsburgh provides assistance in implementing cost effective recycling/waste minimization options for businesses, institutions and special events as well as assisting these venues with coming into compliance with Act 101 and meeting local recycling ordinances. In addition, ZWP provides one-on-one assistance, a hotline and a website dedicated to providing helpful, up-to-date recycling/waste minimization resources, information and assistance for businesses, institutions and special events throughout the region.
PRC in conjunction with the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) and the PA Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) developed Zero Waste Pittsburgh as a one-stop-shop for the planning, development and implementation of business, institutional and special events recycling and waste minimization efforts in south western Pennsylvania.
