Closing Remarks

David Dzombak of the Carnegie Mellon Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education and Research closed the conference by thanking the participants and noting that this conference is the beginning of a regional effort to explore opportunities for building on and expanding water innovation in the Pittsburgh region. He stated that water innovation is needed to restore and protect the water resources of the region. Doing so will create economic opportunities for the region as well as create an environment that will place the region as a center for water technologies. Two studies are presently being conducted to realize these goals: an inventory of the commercial water technology capacity in the Pittsburgh region by GSP Consulting, and a study of the potential for a Regional Water Innovation Consortium by Carnegie Mellon University.
